Who should attend this course:

  • This course is suitable for learners who are able to maintain some flow of speech but the speed is rather slow due to repetition and self-correction

  • They can produce simple sentences on familiar topics somewhat comfortably but more complex communication causes difficulties.

  • Their vocabulary range is still limited which affects the flow. Basic sentence forms are produced with reasonable accuracy but complex structures contain errors.

  • The quality of pronunciation and intonation show a greater awareness of the speech of native speakers but the speech is still distinctly below the desired level.

By the end of this course the participants will:

  • feel increasingly comfortable and confident to speak in English for discussing both familiar and unfamiliar topics.

  • show a greater degree of fluency by speaking at a faster pace and using longer sentences with the help of connectives and contractions. The use of question tags and filler words will also be emerging in their speech.

  • be able to use English language for expressing in a variety of ways their opinion, agreement and disagreement, certainty or doubt, making and receiving telephone calls, giving and asking for directions and other information, advice, sharing of information and ideas, giving multiple instructions and commands.

  • be able to give a short 3 to 5 minute talk on a given topic both with and without preparation.

  • be using a wider range of colloquial words and idiomatic phrases to express their thoughts and feelings on both familiar and unfamiliar topics.

  • use a wider range of grammar with fewer errors while producing simple sentences.

  • speak with a better command of pronunciation and intonation for conveying feelings and purpose but not for all situations.
