Presentations for the 5th OPEN English Language Expo 2025
We are pleased to invite proposals for presentations at the 5th OPEN English Language Expo - 2025, themed “Transforming English Language Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow.” This event aims to bring together English language educators, trainers, policymakers, and educational leaders to explore innovative teaching strategies that integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into English language education.
EVENT OVERVIEW

The Expo will focus on four SDGs (3, 4, 8, & 9) to inspire educators to incorporate sustainability principles into their teaching practices. It will provide a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among novice and experienced educators. The emphasis is on aligning education with global sustainability efforts, preparing students to be proficient in English and responsible global citizens.
SESSION THEMES

Presentations should focus on integrating the following SDGs into English language education:




We invite educators/OPEN Alumni to submit proposals that provide practical insights, research, case studies, or success stories on how these SDGs can be embedded into English language instruction. Presentations may cover but are not limited to:
- Strategies for integrating sustainability concepts into English lessons.
- Case studies of successful classroom implementations.
- Creative approaches to teaching English through the lens of global challenges.
- Best practices in fostering innovation, mental well-being, and sustainable career development for educators.
PRESENTATION FORMAT

The following types can be selected:
1 hour 45 minute Workshop | 40-minute Demonstration | 20-minute Poster Session | 20-minute Teaching Tips | 20-minute Presentation
Presenters are encouraged to adopt interactive formats, allowing for participant engagement through discussions, activities, or case study analysis.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Interested participants should submit a proposal (500 words max) detailing the following:
- Title of the session/presentation
- Abstract (80-100 words)
- Summary of the session/presentation topic (200 to 300 words)
- Connection to the SDGs
- Relevance to the theme “Transforming English Language Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow”
- Learning outcomes for the audience
- Brief biography of the presenter(s)
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

TECHNICAL CRITERIA
Title of Session
Your title must not exceed a total of 10 words.

Abstract
Your abstract must be between 80- 100 words. Your abstract must accurately reflect the main content of your session.
Summary
Your summary must be between 200 to 300 words. Your summary must outline accurately what you will talk about in the presentation and the flow/structure of the presentation.
1-Minute Video Introduction
Your video must not be more than 1-minute long.
CONTENT CRITERIA
Focus
Abstract and summary should clearly demonstrate how your session aligns with the expo's theme, “Transforming English Language Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” and highlights practical classroom ideas related to the selected SDGs (3, 4, 8, and 9). The session should focus on incorporating these SDGs into English language teaching practices in a way that is relevant and applicable to classroom settings.
Content and Relevance
Your title, abstract, and summary should clearly reflect the topic of your session. Ensure that the content is practical and avoids unnecessary terminology or jargon. The audience will consist of English language professionals from across Pakistan, so your proposal should emphasize how the learning can be applied in their specific teaching contexts, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and well-being in education as aligned with SDGs 3, 4, 8, and 9.
Structure
Summary must outline the structure of your session, including a clear plan for how you will present your ideas and engage the audience in meaningful activities. Consider incorporating strategies related to the SDGs, such as mindfulness activities (SDG 3), innovative teaching practices (SDG 9), or career guidance (SDG 8), ensuring that each element of your session is organized and purposeful.
Coherence
Ensure that your title, abstract, and summary are coherent and clearly linked. Each element should seamlessly connect, reinforcing the central focus of integrating the SDGs into English language teaching and contributing to the overall theme of sustainable education.
Timing
Session should be planned to fit within the allotted time, leaving 5-10 minutes for questions and answers. Your summary must detail how you will manage the time, ensuring that you cover all key points related to the SDGs while allowing for meaningful audience interaction.
1-Minute Video Introduction
Your video should include the following:
Introduction: Provide your name, city, and the institution where you are currently employed.
Connection to the OPEN Program: Briefly describe how the OPEN course(s) helped you enhance your classroom teaching and how this has influenced your approach to sustainability and the SDGs in education.
Presentation Overview: Offer a brief introduction to the concept of your presentation, outlining how it aligns with the selected SDGs (3, 4, 8, and 9).
Ensure that your video is concise, professional, and recorded in a quiet environment with minimal background noise. Keep it focused and to the point.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The expo is scheduled for January 25-26, 2025, and will be held in Karachi. Interested Alumni from all cities/areas of Pakistan can apply. The two-way travel cost, Air tickets and commute of only selected presenters from their city of residence to Karachi will be covered. This also includes accommodation and meals.
The call for application is open to OPEN Pakistan alumni who have completed OPEN Global Online Course or RELO Tailored Courses funded by the Regional English Language Office (RELO Pakistan) at the U.S Embassy Islamabad. Female Alumni from underserved communities of Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir are highly encouraged to apply.
The expo will feature over 30+ presentations/workshops/sessions delivered by American Specialists and OPEN Alumni. Each day, Alumni will have the opportunity to network, learn new teaching methodologies, participate in games, interactive activities, alongside engaging in learning sessions.
All OPEN Alumni, including English language professionals from all regions of Pakistan, who are currently in-service teachers, administrators, principals, curriculum developers, university professors, and lecturers, are eligible to apply. Only 30 OPEN Alumni will be shortlisted to present at the expo.
